On Oct 25th, we had a status hearing in preparation for trial #2. Potential jurors answered 51 questions on paper. Yesterday, Oct 29th, the potential jurors that made that cut in group one (there are three groups) showed up for individual questioning. Today, Oct 30th, group one continues for individual questioning. Group two will most likely be asked to show up tomorrow.

Because of all of the publicity given to the first trial, the judge, the defense attorney and the district attorney are being over cautious in selecting a jury. Evidently there is a case called the Mallot case in which is being cited to not use potential jurors who may have hidden emotional biases. Yes, you read correctly. It seems there is mind reading and lie detecting going on. While there may be a few jurors left to get a jury in a what has been referred to as

"a small community" of over 100,000 people - yes, the second largest community in Alaska, we may end up with a change of venue. A change of venue is when the court will move to a different community in an effort to get a fair trial for the defendant.

So, our lesson today: 1. Mallot; 2. Mind Reading & Lie Detecting 3. Small Community Perception; 4. Change of Venue 5. Fair Trial
